The State Director, National Orientation Agency, Akwa Ibom Directorate, Mr Mkpoutom Mkpoutom has appealed to residents of the state to stay away from substance abuse and domestic violence, stressing the need for families and communities to live together in peace.
Mr Mkpoutom said substance abuse especially among young people can destroy lives, affect families and create problems in society. He therefore encouraged parents to pay close attention to their children, guide them properly and educate them about the dangers of abusing drugs and other harmful substances.
He also called on couples and family members to learn to settle their differences through patience, understanding and dialogue instead of violence.
According to him, domestic violence affects not only the victim but also children and other members of the family who may carry the emotional scars for a long time.
The NOA State Director urged residents who are experiencing or witnessing domestic violence or substance abuse to speak out and seek help from the appropriate authorities and support organisations.
He reassured the people of Akwa Ibom that NOA would continue to sensitise the public on issues that affect their wellbeing, peace and security, while encouraging everyone to play their part in building a safer and more peaceful nation.
