The State Director of the National Orientation Agency, Akwa Ibom State Directorate, Mr. Mkpoutom Mkpoutom , has called on residents of the state to promote issue-based political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections. He started this on the weekly media engagement of the Directorate.

He urged political parties, candidates, supporters and the general public to focus their campaigns on policies, programmes and ideas that can improve the lives of the people, rather than resorting to hate speech, personal attacks and inflammatory statements.

Mr. Mkpoutom stressed that peaceful and responsible political participation is essential to maintaining the unity and stability of Akwa Ibom State. He encouraged citizens to respect one another despite their political differences and to use their voices positively during the electioneering period.

The State Director also appealed to registered voters who are yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to do so in good time and prepare adequately for the 2027 general elections.

He emphasized that the PVC remains an important tool for citizens to participate in the electoral process and make their choices at the polls.

He therefore encouraged eligible voters to take the necessary steps to collect their PVCs, while urging all residents to shun violence, hate speech and other actions capable of disrupting the peaceful conduct of the elections.

According to him, a credible and peaceful election is a shared responsibility, and every citizen has a role to play in ensuring that the 2027 general elections are conducted in an atmosphere of peace, tolerance and respect.
