The State Director, National Orientation Agency, Akwa Ibom Directorate, Mr Mkpoutom Mkpoutom has called on students across the state to embrace the Federal Government’s Learner Identification Number (LIN) scheme.

Mr. Mkpoutom made the call in his office while addressing students from the University of Uyo who paid him a courtesy visit in Uyo to support the initiative, describing the LIN as an important step towards improving the identification and management of learners within the country’s education system.

He urged students to take the registration process seriously and ensure that they obtain and properly use their Learner Identification Number whenever required.

Mr Mkpoutom also appealed to parents and guardians to assist their children and wards in complying with the initiative, noting that accurate identification of learners would help the government plan better and provide appropriate educational services.

He further encouraged students to remain focused on their studies, obey school rules and regulations, and take advantage of government programmes aimed at improving the quality of education in Nigeria.

He explained that the Learner Identification Number would provide a reliable record of each learner’s educational journey and support effective monitoring of enrolment, attendance and academic progress.

The State Director urged school administrators to provide the necessary guidance during the registration exercise and ensure that learners’ information was accurately captured and properly protected.

He also called on relevant stakeholders, including traditional leaders, community organisations and the media, to support public awareness efforts so that no eligible learner would be left out of the initiative.

Mr. Mkpoutom expressed confidence that the successful implementation of the LIN would strengthen accountability in the education sector and contribute to more effective delivery of learning opportunities across Akwa Ibom State.
