NOA URGES SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS TO SHUN DRUG ABUSE

The State Director of the National Orientation Agency, Akwa Ibom State Directorate, Mr Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, has urged secondary school students in the state to shun drug abuse and embrace healthy lifestyles to secure their future.

Mr Mkpoutom, who was represented by Mr Akpan Abraham, Deputy Director at the state headquarters of the Agency gave the advice while sensitising secondary school students during a summit organised by National Association Nigerian Students (NANS).

He emphasised the dangers of drug abuse, noting that the misuse of drugs and other harmful substances could negatively affect students’ health, academic performance, behaviour, and future ambitions. He encouraged the students to make responsible decisions and avoid peer pressure that could lead them into drug abuse and other harmful practices.

The NOA State Director, through his representative, reminded the students that their youthful years are an important stage of life that should be devoted to education, personal development, and the acquisition of positive values. He urged them to associate with friends who would encourage them to pursue their goals and make meaningful contributions to society.

He further encouraged the students to seek guidance from their parents, teachers, school counsellors, and other trusted adults whenever they face challenges or feel pressured to experiment with drugs. He stressed that seeking help is a sign of responsibility and strength.

The students were encouraged to become ambassadors against drug abuse by sharing the knowledge gained during the summit with their peers and discouraging practices that could jeopardise their health and future.

The NOA called on parents, teachers, school administrators, and other stakeholders to work together to protect young people from drug abuse through proper guidance, awareness creation, and sustained support.Note: Please confirm the full meaning or correct spelling of NANS so that the name of the summit organiser can be accurately presented in the report.
