The State Director of the National Orientation Agency, Akwa Ibom Directorate, Mr. Mkpoutom Mkpoutom appeals residents of the state to take ownership of public infrastructure in their communities and protect them from vandalism and misuse.

Mr. Mkpoutom made the call while speaking on a live television show on the need for citizens to support government efforts toward providing essential infrastructure and improving the standard of living across the state.

He noted that public facilities such as roads, schools, health centres, water projects, streetlights and other government infrastructure are provided for the benefit of the people and should therefore be treated as community assets.

The State Director encouraged residents to report cases of vandalism, destruction or misuse of public facilities to the appropriate authorities, stressing that protecting existing infrastructure would encourage government to do more for the people.

He further called for greater cooperation between citizens and government, saying that development is a shared responsibility and that communities have an important role to play in ensuring that government projects are preserved and sustained.

Mr. Mkpoutom therefore appealed to Akwa Ibom residents to develop a sense of responsibility and ownership towards public facilities, assuring that collective efforts would contribute to sustainable development and a better quality of life for all.
